The 4th anniversary celebration of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) was successfully held on June13 evening in the Everest Hotel in Kathmandu. Her Excellency Madam Xi Hui, Charge d’ Affairs from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal, Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof. GengYanjun, Vice President of Hebei University of Economics and Business, Professor NiuMengying, Director of United Front Work Department, Professor Li Weifeng, Dean of School of Economics and Management and Madam Bao Deyuan, Director of Confucius Institute attended the celebration, and speak highly of the achievements that CIKU has achieved during the past four years. More than 200 people, including CIKU students, teachers, various dignitaries and professors have participated in the program and reception.
CIKU organized a special program to mark the 4th Anniversary. Students at CIKU performed wonderful programs including singing Chinese songs, dancing Chinese dances, reciting ancient Chinese poems, telling Chinese story and so on.
Speaking at the occasion, charge d' affairs of Chinese Embassy in Nepal Madam Xi Hui said that CIKU is growing stronger year by year. "It has formed the mode of one institute with multiple teaching centers and various classes in various parts of Nepal", she added. She further expressed her belief that the institute will continue to improve itself, cultivate more Nepali talents to strengthen the relations between the two nations.
Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, chairman of the Board of Confucius Executive Directors as well as Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, made a summary of what CIKU has achieved within the past four years and hope that the cooperation between Kathmandu University and Hebei University of Economics and Businesswill further cooperate on a larger scale and promote more in-depth exchanges in the future.
Addressing the function Prof. GengYanjun, Vice President of Hebei University of Economics and Business congratulated the institution on its fourth birthday and expressed his sincere appreciation to all the Chinese instructors and volunteer teachers who are working in Nepal far away from their families and homes.He also said that the Confucius Institute has now developed into an important Chinese Language teaching institution which offers Chinese Language courses to students in Nepal.
Talking to Xinhua at the celebration ceremony, Director of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University Ms. Bao Deyuan said that in the past four years, Confucius Institute has been a bridge between China and Nepal. "I am very happy that more and more students are coming to study language, at the beginning we had just four or five students now we have some 1000 students, "Prof. Bao Deyuan said. She said that through the institute, Nepali students are learning a lot of Chinese culture in which they are interested. She added that more than 29 students have already got scholarship to study Chinese in China.
Talking to Xinhua, Mahesh Awale, a Confucius Institute student, said that he is really attracted by Chinese language and has been studying the language with vigor and enthusiasm.
