Development Plan of CIKU

As we are already in our 6th year now, it is about time we reviewed our strategy and restructure our programs to suit the needs of not only the students who want to learn Chinese, but also of the serious scholars who want to know about China.
Although Nepal and China share borders and a long history of good relations, Nepal still does not have a China research center that would help many of our teachers and students learn more about China by conducting researches on modern China. As such, our understanding of China is limited and we have to rely on the Western sources that are not always accurate to learn about what is happening in China. CIKU, therefore, needs to evolve as a research center that will help many academics with their studies/researches on China, especially related to business and contemporary issues. Of course, our primary responsibility is and will always remain promoting Chinese language and culture, but having an additional responsibility of serving the needs of the academics will do wonders and make CIKU a popular place among serious scholars. This will also help us in integrating ourselves to the University¡Çs core.
CIKU will strongly support the Xin Han Xue Ji Hua and send the most competent students/scholars to study/research related to Chinese development, foreign policy and contemporary/modern history. CIKU will also invite reputed scholars from China to give lectures on various aspects of Chinese society, foreign relations and development. CIKU will strive toward becoming a platform for exchange of ideas between the Chinese and Nepali/foreign scholars on various issues pertaining to China. CIKU will focus more on finding the similarities between the traditional and modern Chinese cultures with Nepali culture, to attract the students¡Ç interests. We will promote more of modern Chinese culture and issues that would make the students feel that China/Chinese people are good, normal, regular people as opposed to the Western media reports that tend to portray China in a negative light. We will publish an annual research journal with articles by Chinese/Nepali and foreign scholars of repute on various aspects of modern/contemporary China. CIKU will offer limited research grants/scholarships to students who are conducting their research on modern China at universities in Nepal. CIKU also hopes to have two Chinese students who are currently enrolled at Chinese universities and who are doing their research on China-Nepal/China-South Asia or South Asian issues by offering scholarships.
