Confucius Institute teachers and their Nepali students Visit China Aid Projects

On March 18, 2012 Chinese teachers and their Nepali students from Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) paid a visit to five China Aid projects in Kathmandu. Among these projects are Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC), Civil Service Hospital of Nepal, National Ayurveda Research and Training Centre (NATRC), Dashrath Stadium, Shooting range for the 8th South Asian Games and National Swimming Complex.
Madame Zou Bin,Chief of Culture Section of Chinese Embassy, Prof. Janga Bahadur Chauan from Kathmandu University , CIKU Chinese teachers and over 50 Nepali students participated in the function.
BICC now serves as the parliament house of Nepal. For nearly all the students, it is the first time for them to visit inside their parliament house. They felt excited to have a chance to experience the venue where the congressmen meet and debate with each other.
When visiting Civil Service Hospital of Nepal CIKU,several students told their Chinese teachers that this is one of the best hospitals they have ever been to, and unlike the other hospitals in Nepal, it smells good. The manager of the hospital made an brief introduction to the students .
Dashrath Stadium is the only international stadium in Nepal and AFC Challenge Cup football matches are being held there. Before the AFC Challenge Cup Chinese government provided financial and technical support to update its lighting system, sound system ,display screen and other equipments to meet the requirements of AFC. Prevoiusly, the stadium was renovated with the help of China to prepare it before the 8th South Asian Games in 1999 and AFC Chairman Cup football matches in 2005. When the students found the welcome slogan both in Chinese and English on the large electric screen, “Welcome Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University teachers and students to visit Dashrath Stadium”, they burst into cries happily and surprisingly. Mr. Xu Jian , manager of the Chinese company which has made the renovation , introduced the stadium to the students.
National Ayurveda Research and Training Centre (NATRC) is constructed on the premises of the Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur. Dr. Shyam Babu Yadav, executive director of NATRC told the CIKU teachers and students that the centre will play a positive role in promotion and utilisation of Ayurveda in the country, by conducting research on medicinal herbs available here. According to him, the Chinese government has provided not only financial assistance to construct the centre but also necessary equipment, infrastructure and training for human resources. The centre consists of a 25-bed hospital as well as training and research divisions.
CIKU teachers and students also visited Shooting range for the 8th South Asian Games and National Swimming Complex at Satdobato, Lalitpur .
Most of the students have never heard of these China Aid projects. With the development of the friendly cooperation between China and Nepal, there will be more and more Chinese help coming to Nepal. The visit to these China Aid projects helped the Nepali students know better about China and thus promote the China- Nepal friendship.
CIKU student Yeshi Dakpa was born in India and completed his study from Bangalore University. Soon after that he started herb business. Many of his customers are from China. He wrote in his email,“ Today, we felt so good to see the things provided by Chinese govt. As we say, seeing is believing. This trip mean a lot to us. We could see the generosity of Chinese government, the quality management of Confucius Institute, got opportunity to interact with classmates and other guys who were through same course. I found that all the Chinese tutors are kind and open enough to make us fluent in Chinese speaking. Thank you for your wonderful idea and effort, that brought us more than our own expectation.”
